What the Time Range Controls Are

What is it?

The time range controls sit at the top of the TimeView screen, above the chart. They set which window of history the chart displays. Every device and metric you've selected shares the same time range - TimeView shows one period for the whole chart, not a different one per device.

The control bar has three elements in a row: the ← and → step arrows, the period button (showing the active range, for example "Last 7 days"), and the Compare button next to it. This article covers the period button and the arrows. For side-by-side comparisons, see Comparing Time Periods.

Quick Presets

Click the period button to open the preset menu - a single dropdown listing nine one-click options.

Rolling presets count backward from right now:

• Last 6 hours
• Last 24 hours
• Last 7 days
• Last 30 days
• Last 12 months

To-date presets start at a fixed point and run up to now:

• Today
• Current Week
• Current Month
• Current Year

The preset you're currently viewing is highlighted in the list.

Stepping Through Time

The ← and → arrows next to the period button move the whole window backward or forward by the length of the period you're currently viewing. If you're viewing Current Week, → jumps to next week. If you're viewing Last 30 days, → shifts the entire 30-day window forward by 30 days.

An arrow greys out and stops responding when there's nowhere left to go: → disables once stepping forward would move past the current moment, and ← disables once stepping back would go past the earliest data available for your site.

Custom Date Ranges

Next to the period dropdown, click the small calendar icon button to open the full calendar panel and set an exact custom range.

Choosing a granularity

A tab bar across the top of the panel lets you pick how you want to select dates: Daily, Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, or Yearly. Each tab changes what the calendar grid shows you - Daily and Weekly display a standard month grid of days, Monthly shows a full year of month cells, Quarterly shows a year of Q1–Q4 cells, and Yearly shows a grid of several years to choose from. Pick the tab that matches how you think about the range you want, rather than working it out day by day.

Setting the range (Daily, Weekly & Monthly tabs)

On the Daily, Weekly, and Monthly tabs, three options control how the range is built:

• Single / Range - pick a start point and an end point directly on the calendar.
• Since - pick a start point only; the end is always right now.
• Last - enter a number and TimeView calculates the trailing range for you (entering 9 on the Daily tab, for example, gives you Last 9 days).

The Start and End fields below show the selected dates and update as you click on the calendar. On the Daily tab, turn on Include time next to the Start field to add hour-and-minute precision. The Quarterly and Yearly tabs skip this step - you pick a start and end quarter or year directly instead.

When you open the calendar, the Start and End fields are pre-filled with whatever range is currently active - even if you got there from a preset - so you're adjusting a real range instead of starting from a blank slate.

Applying or canceling

The panel footer shows a running day count and date range for your selection - for example, "7 days" next to "Jul 10 - Jul 16, 2026." Click Apply to use the new range and close the panel, or Cancel to discard your changes and keep the range you had before.

Presets by Granularity

To the left of the calendar, a Presets list gives each tab its own shortcuts suited to that granularity:

• Daily - Today, Yesterday, Last 6 hours, Last 24 hours, Last 7 days, Last 30 days.
• Weekly - Current Week, Last full week, Last 2 weeks, Last 4 weeks.
• Monthly - Current Month, Last full month, Last 3 months, Last 6 months, Last 12 months.
• Quarterly - Current Quarter, Last full quarter, Last 2 quarters, Last 4 quarters.
• Yearly - Current Year, Last full year. This tab also notes how far back your data goes (for example, "Data is available for up to 5 years back").

These give you a fast path to a common range without picking start and end points by hand, while still landing you in the calendar in case you want to fine-tune the dates afterward.

A Few Things to Know

• Site-aware calendar. The calendar's first day of the week matches your site's configured setting, and you can't select dates before the site was created in PowerRadar.
• Resolution follows your range. TimeView automatically shows finer detail for shorter periods and coarser detail for longer ones, so the chart stays readable at any range. Rolling presets like Last 24 hours also refresh automatically while you're viewing them.
• Your default view. Whether TimeView opens on a rolling window or a to-date window by default is controlled by a preference in your account settings.
