What You Can Do With Dashboards

What is it?

Every site has a default Dashboard that gives you a snapshot of that site's energy consumption and operational health. With the Optimize package, you aren't limited to that one view - you can build your own custom dashboards, add the widgets that matter to you, and share them with your team.

Why use it?

  • Build a dashboard focused on the one system, building, or metric you care about most.
  • Choose only the widgets you need instead of scrolling through a fixed layout.
  • Keep a dashboard private while you're building it, then share it once it's ready.
  • Set your own default view, or set the default every user at the site sees first.

Note: Creating additional dashboards and adding widgets to them requires the Optimize package. On Visualize sites, you only have the single default Dashboard.

The Dashboards List

Open the Dashboards list to see every dashboard available to you at this site. Click the list icon in the corner of any dashboard to open it, and Hide list to close it again.

The list has two sections:

  • Created by me - dashboards you built. Each one shows its name and whether it's Private or Public.
  • Created by others - dashboards teammates at your site have made Public. If none exist yet, this section reads "No dashboards yet."

Use the Filter dashboards search box above the list to find a dashboard by name. Click + New dashboard to start building one- you'll be asked to name it before you add your first widget.

Adding a Widget: The Two-Step Flow

Every widget you add to a dashboard goes through the same two steps: pick the widget, then configure it.

Step 1 - Add widget

Click + Add widget (the floating button in the bottom-right corner of a dashboard you're editing). The Add widget window opens with a scrollable grid of widget cards on the left - each showing a preview image, the widget's name, and a short description of what it does.

Click a card to select it. Its border highlights, and a live preview of that widget appears in the pane on the right. The Widget preferences > button in the footer stays disabled until you've selected a widget.

Click Widget preferences > to continue, or Cancel to close the window without adding anything.

Step 2 - Widget preferences

The window's title changes to "[Widget name] preferences," with a back arrow on the left (returns to Step 1 with your widget still selected) and that widget's settings below it - for example, a Time range selector, a formula or threshold field, or a goal you can define.

As you change settings on the left, the Live data preview on the right updates to match, so you see the real result before you commit to it.

Click Add to dashboard once you're happy with the settings. The widget appears on your dashboard immediately, and you can drag it into place or resize it afterward.

Note: Add to dashboard stays disabled until every required setting passes validation. Fix any field flagged with an error before you can continue.

How Many Widgets Fit (The Box-Cap Counter)

Widgets come in two sizes, and each dashboard page has room for a limited number of them.

  • Small widgets take up 1 box - most single-metric or compact-chart widgets (Carbon footprint, Real-time power, Site alerts, and similar).
  • Large widgets take up 2 boxes - wider widgets, like multi-series charts.

Each dashboard page holds up to 9 boxes. The + Add widget button shows your current count as a fraction, like 6/9, so you always know how much room is left before you try to add another widget.

If a page fills up, add another page instead of removing anything. Click the + next to your page tabs (Page 1, Page 2, and so on) - a dashboard can have up to 3 pages. Once you're at 3, the + button is disabled with the tooltip “Maximum of 3 tabs reached. Close a tab to add a new one.”

When a dashboard has more than one page, it rotates between them automatically while you're viewing it. Use the Rotate every dropdown, in the top-right corner while editing, to set how often it switches pages. On the saved dashboard, pagination dots at the bottom of the widget area show which page is showing, and you can pause the rotation from there.

Sharing a Dashboard

By default, a new dashboard is Private - only you can see it. To share it with everyone else at your site, open its ⋮ menu from the Dashboards list and choose Make visible to others. The dashboard's status changes from Private to Public, and it now appears under Created by others for the rest of your site's users.

You can reverse this at any time: open the ⋮ menu on a Public dashboard you created and choose Make invisible to others to turn it back to Private.

Note: There's no per-person sharing - Make visible to others shares the dashboard with everyone at the site, not with specific teammates.

Managing a Dashboard

Open a dashboard's ⋮ menu from the Dashboards list for these actions:

  • Set as my default - this dashboard opens automatically for you whenever you visit the site.
  • Make visible to others / Make invisible to others - shares or unshares the dashboard. The label switches depending on its current Private/Public status.
  • Set as site's default dashboard - this dashboard opens automatically for every user at the site, not just you.
  • Duplicate - creates a copy of the dashboard with the same widgets and settings, so you can build a variation without starting over.
  • Delete dashboard - permanently removes the dashboard from the site.

Note: A dashboard you didn't create yourself - for example, a site's built-in Performance dashboard - may not offer Delete dashboard or the visibility toggle. Those two actions are only available on dashboards you built.

On the Mobile App

The dashboards you build on web carry over to the PowerRadar mobile app. From a site's Dashboard tab, tap the dropdown arrow next to the dashboard name to open the Dashboards picker. It lists every dashboard you have access to under My Dashboards, with a checkmark on the one you're currently viewing and a Default tag on whichever you've set as your personal default.

Selecting a dashboard renders its widgets on mobile the same way you configured them on web - the same values, and the same scope (for example, a Real-time power widget scoped to one device group instead of the whole site). If the dashboard has more than one page, mobile lists every page's widgets one after another in a single scroll, instead of rotating between pages the way the web view does.

Note: A dashboard only becomes visible to other users on mobile once it's published - that is, made Public with Make visible to others on web. The mobile app's own wording: “Only published dashboards appear on mobile. To make a dashboard visible here for everyone, publish it from the PowerRadar platform on the web.”

Things to Know

  • Optimize only. Creating additional dashboards and adding widgets requires the Optimize package. Visualize sites use the single default Dashboard only.
  • The box cap is per page, not per dashboard. Each page holds up to 9 boxes, and a dashboard can have up to 3 pages.
  • Sharing is site-wide, not per-person. There's no way to share a dashboard with specific teammates only.
  • Mobile mirrors your web dashboards. Switch between them from the Dashboards picker on mobile - but a dashboard only shows up there for teammates once you've published it (made it Public).
